Infra-Red Drying System
25 October 2012
An infra-red drying system from Heraeus Noblelight has helped Lorlec improve productivity and reduce downtime in the drying of electro-plated components. The new system was easily and quickly retrofitted into the available space in the plating area.
Newly plated components are dried as they are conveyed to a storage area to prevent any discolouration or watermarks on the plated surface. Previously short wave infra-red halogen lamps were used, but these proved unreliable because of frequent lamp failure.
To solve the problem Heraeus retrofitted a 38.4kW fast response, medium wave system adjacent to the conveyor system by the water bath.
The new system has increased productivity by around 30%, thanks to the greater efficiency of medium wave infra-red in drying applications and the long life of the modules.
