ABB launches Drives Solutions Team
21 March 2014
ABB in the UK has launched a Drives Solutions Team aimed at reinforcing the company’s credentials in the engineered and medium voltage drives businesses.
The team is able to provide engineered packages comprising ABB machines, transformers, variable-speed drives and life cycle services.
For customers, the team provides a single point of contact, reduced overall project costs, optimised and integrated products and a single warranty; all of which is backed up with a range of life cycle services.
In line with ABB’s aim to grow by collaborating better between its divisions, the Drives Solutions Team works closely across all product divisions from transformers and switchgear through to large machines and generators. The idea is that one team can act as the engineering interface between ABB and its customer to ensure a seamless supply and install of any motor-driven electrical system.
"Very few, if any companies, in the market are able to offer such a wide portfolio of engineered products as a single package,” explains David Bates former director of Dynamotive, which ABB acquired in June 2013 and the newly appointed team leader. "Our forte is engineering complete drive systems for major industries such as oil & gas, metals and pulp & paper. This requires a high technical level of expertise and excellent application know-how, both of which ABB has in abundance. For our customers this provides an extremely low risk approach.”
In practice this means that ABB optimises the dimensioning of system components, such as transformers, motors, variable-speed drives and cabling of a system, leading to cost effective low risk project implementation. Furthermore, the selected components are optimised to deliver the highest efficiency and performance. In certain applications this yields maximum energy savings and a shorter payback time. It also leads to very low total lifetime costs of the drive system package, thereby increasing user profitability.
