Find the formula for a winning factory at PPMA

30 June 2014

At this year's PPMA Show – which takes place at the NEC, Birmingham, 30th September to 2nd October – Controls Drives & Automation will chair a seminar session presented by Patrick Mroczak, former operations director at a major player in the food sector on how adopting automation has helped the company achieve the accolade of Britain's top factory at the Best Factory Awards.

While it's easy to read about the theories covering the benefits of automation, it's more unusual to be able to hear about a real application example directly from someone at the heart of the project. In his presentation, titled  "Innovation, Automation and Culture: A Winning Factory Formula", Mroczak will explain how the culture at the company was central to its success in achieving improvements in a short space of time

Seminar attendees will get to see a visual representation of the factory and systems utilised to improve OEE and maximise on capital return. There will be detailed examples of how Lean Six Sigma principles can be used to identify and highlight the need for automation and improvements; and how this can represent a fundamental step in justifying new capital equipment. The result is a series of sustainable improvements linked to automation, which drives business decisions and has helped in growing trade.

Elsewhere in the seminar programme, Christine Tacon, the Government’s first appointed supermarket ombudsman will shine a light on her work with the UK’s largest supermarkets and demonstrate her aim to work with associations like the PPMA to help encourage feedback from suppliers. Michael Portillo will provide this year’s opening address and discuss the resurgence of British manufacturing and its role in rebalancing the economy.

Throughout the exhibition, visitors will be able view a number of exclusive machinery demonstrations, including a new wraparound cartoning system from Kliklok International, a fully automatic random case sealer from Endoline, and no less than six different pick and place systems from Pacepacker Systems.
