MTA & NEAA team-up for automotive sector automation masterclass

23 March 2017

The Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) has teamed up with the North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA) to deliver a one-day masterclass focusing on the supply chain and automation within the UK automotive sector. The event will be held on 6th April 2017 at Nissan Sport and Leisure in Sunderland.

The Government's Industrial Strategy Green Paper highlighted that the UK makes less use of robotics and automation than most other countries in Western Europe. Consequently, productivity in the UK is substantially behind our competitors; with workers in France, Germany and the US producing on average as much in four days as UK workers do in five. The UK automotive sector bucks that trend and productivity per worker is higher than our competitors. However in order to maintain our position, and therefore remain globally competitive, the UK automotive sector must continually strive to operate more efficiently and get products to market faster.

Today new automation solutions are utilising less floor space, producing finished products at significantly higher rates than previous set-ups, with smaller workforces than previously required. The cumulative benefit to UK automotive manufacturing presented by industry 4.0 is suggested to be worth £74bn by 2035.

James Selka CEO of the MTA, said: “The automotive sector is one of the real success stories in UK manufacturing at the moment and the North East is spearheading this revolution. We’re pleased to be collaborating with the NEAA to deliver this one-day event at Nissan in April. We hope it will provide valuable insight for any company wishing to become involved in the automotive supply chain.”

Paul Butler CEO of NEAA, said: “In order to remain a globally competitive region for the automotive manufacturing we need to stimulate more innovation in our manufacturing processes. We are teaming up with MTA to deliver this automation masterclass to help drive manufacturing innovation and help companies move towards the factory of the future.”

The event is free to attend for MTA and NEAA Members and £95+VAT for non-members.

*Demand for this event is high, the MTA and NEAA reserve the right to limit places to one per company and/ or to most relevant companies. Register here
