NSK donates €20,000 to UNICEF
05 December 2017
As in 2016, NSK has again this year decided to forego giving any Christmas presents to customers across Europe, instead donating €20,000 to humanitarian charity UNICEF, which is working tirelessly to protect children and their families from danger all over the world.
The conflict in South Sudan, which first erupted in 2013, is having devastating consequences for the country´s population. Women and children face immediate risks of violence, displacement, hunger and life-threatening diseases.
UNICEF´s work in South Sudan includes the provision of screening and treatment of children for malnutrition, as well as safe water and sanitation. Children are immunised, while separated children are registered so they can be reunited with their families. Furthermore, with education interrupted for vast numbers of children, UNICEF´s ´Back to Learning´ initiative aims to rehabilitate hundreds of damaged classrooms and provide thousands of children forced out of school with access to education.
As an example of what UNICEF could do with the NSK donation, 54,545 portions of peanut paste could be acquired. This basic foodstuff offers around 500 calories and vital vitamins and trace elements. Each undernourished child would receive three packets daily for 4-6 weeks.
