Quick-assembly steel coupling
20 July 2018
At PPMA 2018 power transmission component manufacturer, KTR U.K., will showcase its new steel lamina coupling, which can be radially assembled and disassembled as a complete unit quickly and easily.

The new RIGIFLEX-N has been designed in accordance with API 610 and 671 and is available in six sizes for shaft diameters up to 105 mm and rated torques up to 2400Nm.
It consists of two hubs, one spacer and two lamina sets, which are factory-mounted as a sub-assembly. The hubs of the steel lamina coupling are designed as a half shell which allows for speedy radial assembly and disassembly of the coupling as a unit.
The two semi shell hubs are each mounted via four clamping screws, which means time-consuming assembly stages like heating the hubs for shrinking onto the shafts and mounting the spacer with the hubs are not required.
Also, disassembly of the coupling does not require any specialist tools such as pullers.
RIGIFLEX-N has been designed for average and heavy operating conditions in the pump industry. It’s main applications are process pumps, boiler feed pumps and pipeline pumps for chemistry and petrochemistry. It is also suitable for applications in the marine and compressor industry.
KTR Product Manager Reiner Banemann said: “Our new RIGIFLEX-N combines compact design and high-power density with a low mass moment of inertia. Since the focus with the development of this coupling was to comply with API 610 and 671, the spacer is secured by a safety catch.
“The laminas of the new coupling are designed as layered waisted sets connected with hubs and spacer via positive locking. In cases where the laminas break, the spacer remains within the coupling. There is no risk of shafts being damaged.” Stand E77
