Southern Manufacturing drives forward

03 January 2015

Southern Manufacturing and Electronics 2015 returns to FIVE, Farnborough, from February 10th to 12th 2015. The transition from two to three days is among a number of enhancements waiting to greet visitors to the popular industrial technology show

Southern Manufacturing and Electronics dominates the industrial exhibition scene south of the NEC if not the whole of the UK, and is increasingly coming to the attention of European firms looking to connect with the UK manufacturing sector. At around 18,000 square metres, and hosting up to 800 exhibitors, the show is a major event by any measure, providing the first, and for many visitors the best, opportunity of the year to see the latest products and technologies.

Visitors to the show in 2015 will notice a few changes. Firstly, and most obviously, is the extension from two to three days. The extended opening times are designed to make it easier for visitors to plan their attendance, and to help ease traffic congestion at peak times. Once a show gets to this size, navigating the show floor also becomes more of a problem, so for 2015 the internal layout of the venue has also been redesigned to help smooth-out traffic flow around the exhibition.

The second, and perhaps more subtle change is the increase in the number of overseas firms taking part in the show. Non-UK exhibitors have been a  feature of the show for some time, but with the extension to three days it has become much more practical for offshore firms to take a presence at the event. The result of this has been a dramatic increase in both the number and range of overseas companies taking part. 2015 will see numerous participants from Germany, Spain and Italy, plus others from Lithuania, Slovenia, Switzerland, France, The Netherlands and Belgium. From further afield come companies from the USA, Canada, Taiwan and Japan.

For visitors, the ability to resolve a variety of production and design goals within a single visit gives the show enormous appeal. The Electronics Production, Automation and Machine Control area offers a natural habitat for vendors of HMIs, sensors and PLCs. But these represent simply a small number of the products and solutions on show, which include Robotics & Automation, Electronic Components, Sensors, Sheet Metal, Fabrications & Enclosures, Metrology & Test Equipment, Motors, Drives & Controls, tooling and much more.

Key exhibitors include igus, Hepco Motion, HPC Gears, LG Motion, Fanuc, Anglia, Kawasaki Robotics, Itron, Mouser Electronics, RNA Automation Kabelschelpp Metool, RS Components amongst hundreds of others.

Southern Manufacturing is also the place to go to locate the hottest in machinery, tooling and production accessories. Key international machinery manufacturers and dealers, such as Amada, Bystronic, Matsuura, Yamazaki Mazak, Trumpf, CMZ, XYZ Machine Tools, C. Dugard, Ajax Machine Tools and others, are regular features of the show returning for 2015. The show's Machinery Area makes it possible for visitors to check out many of these state-of-the-art machines being put through their paces. The event is also an outstanding marketplace for the consumables, accessories and equipment that every engineering enterprise needs. A complete classified list of suppliers is available on the show website at www.industrysouth.co.uk.
