Comprehensive sector coverage

13 January 2014

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics returns to FIVE, Farnborough, on February 12th and 13th 2014, and those visitors with an interest in control and automation engineering will not be disappointed.

Covering a huge exhibitor base, it is no surprise that Southern Manufacturing has grown to become an important annual event for design engineers in the UK. The vast panorama of components, OEM parts and services nestling side-by-side, its easy access, convenient location and free entry, combine to make the show a valuable and useful visit for anyone in automation, motion and machine building.

Many big brand suppliers will return to Farnborough in 2014, including Fanuc, Hepco Motion, LG Motion, RS Components, Kawasaki Robotic, HAAS Automation, HPC Gears, Amada and others. They are joined by several important new names, for instance Olympus, exhibiting for the first time in 2014. Along with these companies are literally hundreds of companies delivering a vast array of sub-assemblies, mechanical engineering components, machine vision systems, subcontract metalworking and components. Add to this a wide selection of business support services, for instance training and finance, and the appeal of the event becomes clear.

The Electronics element of the show has expanded dramatically in recent years

The Electronics element of the show has expanded dramatically in recent years and is now probably the most comprehensive marketplace in the UK for machine building and automation components and sub-assemblies such as encoders, controllers, drives and sensors of all descriptions. Delta Line returns once again, showing a collection of motors, stepper motors, customised gearboxes, encoders and intelligent drives. Monitran will be promoting its range of vibration sensors, along with several other specialist sensor vendors such as Magni-Tec, Bernstein and Micro-Epsilon.

On the mechanical engineering side, exhibiting for the first time is Ondrives, a maker of a huge multitude of gears and transmission system components. Acorn Industrial Services will display a range of linear motion and actuation systems. Travelling from Spain to take part in the show, AMES SA provides a remarkable range of structural sintered parts, soft-magnetic parts, gears, self-lubricating bearings, filters & porous metallic components. Kabelschlepp Metool returns once more with its range of drag chains and cable carriers, and regular exhibitor igus(UK) once again showcases its incredible range of bearings and energy chains and cables.

Seminar programme

Along with the huge array of industrial hardware on display – everything from live machinery demonstrations to consumables and components – the Southern Manufacturing show also hosts an extremely popular free seminar programme over both days of the event. Covering both business and technical topics, the programme is delivered by acknowledged experts in their fields and designed to be of practical benefit to anyone involved in manufacturing and industry. Last year saw several sessions oversubscribed by two or three times. Topics covered include cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, designing for commercial success, selling abroad, presentations on Lean Manufacturing and ideas to market successfully. Open to both exhibitors and visitors, demand for places is always high and pre-registration is highly recommended. A full menu of workshops and free registration is available at www.industrysouth.co.uk
