Professional MRX and MRO series routers (Smart Devices) equipped with the icom SmartBox, an integrated Linux environment, can draw on these powerful functions for so-called edge computing applications. These functions enable users, with no special programming skills at all, to create protocol- and vendor-independent software-based applications that promise to be viable in the long term.

The basic "starter package" contains all crucial functions for monitoring, visualisation and messaging. It can be flexibly enhanced through extra functions such as Modbus communication capability, Cumulocity or Telekom Cloud der Dinge connectivity, add-ons like MQTT, or an expansion to collect more data points – even while the system keeps running.
