OMRON introduces DX1 Data Flow Controller

15 January 2026

OMRON HAS launched the DX1 Data Flow Controller, its first industrial edge controller designed to simplify on-site data collection, utilisation and visualisation.

Fully integrated with OMRON’s Sysmac Automation Platform, DX1 enables manufacturers to collect, analyse and visualise operational data from sensors, controllers and other automation devices directly on the factory floor, without the need for specialist programming or additional software.

Designed for ease of use, the DX1 features no-code device configuration and ready-to-use templates that allow users to quickly create data flows via an intuitive visual editor. By lowering technical barriers, the controller helps improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and supports the transition towards IoT-enabled manufacturing.

The DX1 addresses common data utilisation challenges through broad connectivity and flexibility. Enhanced compatibility with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) from multiple manufacturers allows the controller to be retrofitted to existing equipment, reducing lead times and initial investment costs. Importantly, data collection can begin while machines continue operating, eliminating downtime and avoiding the need for device or software replacement.

Standard packages include templates for equipment monitoring, operation status tracking and factory-wide visualisation. Data can be displayed in a tiered structure, enabling users, from factory managers to shop-floor operators, to drill down from production targets to individual machine performance. For more advanced applications, DX1 can be customised using Python and C, supporting complex calculations and connections to non-OMRON controllers.

The DX1 is equipped with SpeeDBee Synapse middleware from SALTYSTER, Inc., supports Ethernet-based connectivity, and integrates with IO-Link, enabling straightforward connection of sensors, cameras and information devices for comprehensive data acquisition.
