Booming market

According to Graham Mackrell, managing director of robot gearing specialist Harmonic Drive UK, the main drivers of growth in the industrial robotics market come from two sources: increased investment in automation in a growing number of industries, and rising demand from small and medium sized businesses in developing countries.

Harmonic Drivehas seen a surge in demand for its high precision gears as a result of the demand for robots. Six elements of the precision gears – zero backlash, accuracy, repeatability, high torque, compactness and low weight – make them, asserts Mackrell, ideal for increasingly high precision automation environments.
To meet this demand, the company has increased investment in manufacturing setups and is continuously looking at making improvements to facilities so it can deliver customer orders even faster.
