OMRON M1-EMP AC drive with multiprotocol Ethernet support

12 March 2026

OMRON HAS expanded its M1 Compact AC Drives family with the new M1-EMP (Ethernet Multi Protocol) model, bringing native multiprotocol Ethernet connectivity to its inverter range. The drive supports EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and Modbus TCP without requiring additional hardware boards, reducing cost and simplifying installation.

Sharing the same form factor as the existing M1-ECT EtherCAT model, the M1-EMP supports 10/100 Mbps half and full duplex communication, with both cyclic and non-cyclic messaging for flexible configuration and full parameter access. An external 24 V DC backup supply maintains network communication even during main power interruptions, enhancing system reliability.

The wider M1 series supports induction motors, permanent magnet motors, and direct drive applications, with integrated position control and gear functionality for versatile motion tasks. Built-in safety features include Safe Stop 0 (STO SIL3 PLe), while a separate model offers FSoE STO functionality for EtherCAT users. Energy-saving capabilities also help reduce operational costs.

Configuration and monitoring are streamlined through OMRON's Sysmac Studio software and the OMRON Drive App, enabling fast setup, parameter adjustment, and diagnostics.

Available from 0.2 to 30kW in single and three-phase versions, the M1 family serves sectors including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, material handling, water treatment, and energy. The M1-EMP extends this reach by making multiprotocol Ethernet connectivity a standard feature, simplifying integration into contemporary production environments.
