STEEL & ROLLING MILLS
Drives in steel and rolling mills are exposed to extremely hard demands. Glowing steel, alternating operational modes and overloads spell out a high level of electrical and mechanical strain that calls for very sturdy designs. As a traditional supplier to heavy industry, VEM has developed knowledge and expertise in the sector over decades, proving a valuable business partner both when building new rolling mills and modernising and reequipping existing plants.
The company plans, produces, supplies and puts complete system solutions in operation in metallurgy focusing on rolling and tube-rolling mills, as well as building complete electrical drive units consisting of transformers, frequency converters and power converters including motors with powers ranging from 500kW to 12MW for low and medium voltage as modernisation projects.
CHEMICAL, OIL & GAS
For the chemical, oil and gas sectors, where explosion protection is vital, amongst its portfolio of drive solutions and electrical components, VEM offers the VEMoCHEM range of drives.
The special machines, speed-controlled drives and complete systems from VEM in the low- and medium-voltage ranges are adapted to the special needs of the chemical, oil and gas sectors and designed for specific customers, helping customers meet their safety responsibilities.
POWER PLANT TECHNOLOGY
With power station engineering faced with the challenge of designing combustion systems to reduce resource utilisation and go easier on the environment, VEM supplies solutions to address this challenge with a high level of plant profitability and competitiveness. The company's drives make a contribution to meeting power stations’ requirements of carbon emissions and air purification.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
When it comes to the generation of energy from renewable sources, VEM is making its mark with the development of generators for wind energy plants. These products are amongst the technological leaders in their field and make a major contribution to determining the pace of product generation for wind energy units. High-performance calculation and design departments mean that the generators can be tailored to the individual requirements of the users.
WATER TECHNOLOGY
VEM supplies a wide range of drives tailormade for pumps. An important area of application is industrial and municipal water treatment. Furthermore, motors with built-in regulators ensure high levels of efficiency under energy-saving conditions in water distribution such as network pumps.
SHIP BUILDING
VEM has many years of experience in building ship motors and it also has the licences from all of the important ship classification companies.
The company builds and supplies motors and generators for a wide range of all ship models, ranging from the large-scale machines with a weight ranging from 200t to the broad spectrum of accessory drives. Scope of delivery includes shaft, diesel and on-board electrical system generators, propeller drives, bow thrusters and transverse rudder drives, pump drives and drives from on-board auxiliary equipment.
TRANSPORTATION
VEM has been developing and producing rail traction machines for more than 100 years. This experience enables the company to meet the demanding needs of the international rail vehicle industry for high performance drive solutions, including highly efficient asynchronous traction motors for electrical or diesel/electrical locomotives, multiple units, trams and working vehicles.
CEMENT & MINING
In the cement and mining sectors the importance of efficient-energy production plants and environmentally friendly processes constantly drives new developments. In addition, dust, heat and hard mechanical loads require highly robust motors and components used for mills, crushers, ovens or conveyor belts.
Asynchronous motors with slip ring rotors are especially good at standing up to these extreme demands. VEM offers robust slip ring motors in the medium-voltage range that work reliably even in the dusty heat of a cement factory.
ENGINEERING & PLANT CONSTRUCTION
EM offers efficient and high-performance machines for all applications in the field of engineering and plant engineering, up to 42 megawatts. Products are characterised by reliability and availability, output ranges, modification capability for respective conditions of use, adjustable speeds, energy efficiency and service.
