Cable carrier protection
16 November 2017
Drag chains have to function flawlessly even under the toughest conditions – for example with difficult ambient influences, contamination or extreme weather. This is why Kabelschlepp Metool has developed steel system channels for the cable carrier systems from the M series with matching enclosures to provide additional top cover. This protects the cable carrier completely against outside influences.
The robust drag chains from the Kabelschlepp Metool M series are often used in outdoor areas, such as in crane applications. Here they are exposed to rough weather conditions, for example in sea ports. That does not have to be the case, though: in combination with the matching enclosure, the steel system channels provide reliable protection on long travel lengths.
The steel system channel is a standardised, two-part guide channel for drag chains from Kabelschlepp Metool which can be flexibly adapted to the requirements in each case. It has a modular design and consists of two side walls, wall brackets and the required fixing material. A variety of channel systems can be configured using standard parts, including four side wall models. “When we developed this solution, we focused on minimising the number of different parts and keeping the design complexity low,“ Werner Eul, Product Manager Cable Carrier Systems at Tsubaki Kabelschlepp, explains. “This allows users to install the system channel quickly and easily and separate parts are easy to procure.” Particularly convenient: many components can be purchased as a set, but are also available individually on request.
The steel system channel prevents build-up of dirt and allows easy cleaning and inspection of the cable carriers. Additional protection of the drag chains can be achieved with a matching roof system which is also available from Kabelschlepp Metool: the cover prevents penetration of the drag chains with coarse dirt, rain, snow or ice. At the same time the clever system allows easy inspection of the drag chains: the cover can be opened at any point without tools and can be locked in the opened position. The roof system also has a modular design and can be combined with all steel system channels.
