Switchtec celebrates 40 years

16 March 2022

Set up by Alan Lester and now headed up by son Jeremy, specialist distributor Switchtec is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Formed in 1982, initially from Alan’s home, moving to the Old Stables in Alton, Staffordshire before moving to Stone, Staffordshire in 1995, t company was initially a distributor of relays, but its range has expanded rapidly over the years and it now operates as a UK franchisee for world-wide manufacturers of quality components covering electromechanical, electrical and electronics components.

Key to the company’s success and continued growth has been its ability to not only recognise, but even predict changes in industry and rapidly focus the company’s offering and technical support accordingly. As a result, Switchtec’s product range now comprises over 15,000 products (with access to many more) from eight franchises, all available from stock.

A measure of Switchtec’s growth was the much needed expansion of its Stone based distribution centre whose stores area was expanded by 50% in 2017. Indeed, the company has exhibited growth year on year and now boasts an annual turnover in excess of £3.5M.

Says CEO Jeremy Lester, “Moving with the times and embracing new technology is the norm at Switchtec. We source components globally and can choose products that technically and commercially satisfy the needs of our customers. The coming year is no different and we have many new products coming through including solutions from leading global innovator in industrial internet technology Kyland. Industrial Ethernet was not even heard of when my father Alan started the company!”
