Low fire risk conduit
16 November 2017
Thanks to its all-metallic construction, Flexicon’s new FSS stainless steel, annularly corrugated, flexible conduit system is suitable for applications and markets requiring highly flame retardant performance, with high levels of ingress protection and superior corrosion performance.
Flexicon sales and marketing director, Tim Creedon, says: “We already have a wide range of metallic conduits, but were finding that there was a demand for a high ingress protection system that was not coated in PVC or any other plastic derivative. This has resulted in us developing a complete new system.
“The new FSS system offers the highest levels of protection from a wide range of hazards including minimising any potential danger from a fire due to its stainless-steel construction and inherent low fire hazard performance. It is halogen free and will not burn or create smoke.”
The new range has an IP rating of IP68, offers high impact and compression strength of 1000kg/100mm and a high tensile or pull off strength of 100kg. Other features include an operating temperature range of between -100˚C to 400˚C, UV light resistance, oil resistance, anti-static properties and EMC screening.
For rail applications, it meets EN 45545-2 HL3, the highest hazard rating for a reaction to fire and is also compliant with the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard 130 for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems.
The FSS conduit is available in diameters from 20mm up to 50mm with a range of connection and termination options that include fixed male, swivel male, swivel female and 90˚ and 45˚ elbows.
