ELECTRIC DRIVES & VACUUM TECHNOLOGY COMBINATION
25 September 2012
Pneumatic products distributor Thorite also specialises in system design, using any number of power sources including electrics, vacuum, hydraulics or pneumatics.
Drawing on the skills of a highly experienced team of in-house engineering staff, a recent example is the assistance given to a major sheet metal fabrication machine builder, which needed a cost effective method of precisely picking and placing sheet metal panels.
Thorite’s engineers spent time assessing the process and proposed a solution which combined fast-acting Festo electric drive actuators with the strength and precision-placing qualities of Piab vacuum units. Now the technology has been successfully trialled and installed, resulting in a sheet metal handling solution that is said to be almost balletic in its operation – and can be seen in action on a Thorite YouTube video clip.
Speaking of this installation Ross Gowler, Thorite’s marketing and engineering services director said: "Every processing, packaging or handling problem can be overcome by utilising the best products to provide the solution. The key to our success is a combination of outstanding staff knowledge and the performance of the units we can supply, with the sheet metal handling solution being an excellent example of this formula in practical action.”
