Enhanced Performance From Asynchronous Spindle Motors

02 November 2012

Among the products highlighted on the SEM stand at SPS will be a new range of rugged Asynchronous Spindle Motors that offers high performance with low vibration characteristics.

Providing greater versatility for applications in machine tool, printing machinery, flying shears and packaging equipment, the new ASM range of asynchronous motors operates to high speed with excellent control. The ASM motors offer constant power from the rated speed to the maximum RPM and can be supplied with hollow or solid shafts.

Three frame sizes of 200, 260 and 320mm2 are available with rated power output of 5.5 to 40kW and speeds up to 18,000 rpm. An additional option is the choice of bearing type, with customers able to specify the optional ‘spindle’ bearing that allows the motor to withstand greater radial forces and elevated speeds. Every motor is precision balanced to ensure low motor and shaft vibration.

Further attention to detail from SEM comes in the precision, and ruggedised, construction of these motors, the result of which allows them to be used in harsher environments and in applications where standard Squirrel Cage motors are not suitable. All of the motors in the range are fitted with precision encoders from Heidenhain allowing for close loop vector control.
Other key features of the range are the options for hollow shafts allowing coolant and other devices to be fed though the motor, and industrial foot and flange mounting. The motors themselves are of a four-pole design and are cooled by an integrated blower fan with through lamination ventilation. Stand 1-373
