Fieldbus modules for enhanced plant efficiency
21 September 2018
ifm electronic now offers a new and rapidly expanding range of modules for common bus networks designed to allow full communication to the latest field devices. The new AL series modules naturally offer network compatibility to nodes on the same level and upwards to the PLC, but also include expanded communications to sensor level, opening up vast new opportunities for plant efficiency.

The expanded communications comes from inbuilt SAP/ERP connectivity via the control network, and full IEC61131-9 IO-Link 1.1 functionality to device level. The opportunities this opens up are vast.
Multiple inputs/outputs: The four to eight M12 ports can provide up to 12 inputs and/or 8 outputs with full diagnostics capability and full remote access from CPU to sensor/output device level. Those sensor settings needing button-pressing are now simply covered by a signal from the CPU enabling simple recipe changes.
Optional versions add extra connections for installations requiring additional output power. As well as covering standard bus systems, the new range offers industrial-grade housings for standard industry, rated to IP65/67, and additional food-industry rated IP69K options.
Improved plant efficiency and production agility through simple changes to all sensor settings at stroke and additional device-level diagnostics barely scratch the surface of new opportunities that the AL series represents, yet they are compatible with existing network systems and field devices.
ifm is committed to working closely with its customers to develop products which precisely match their needs, and the company provides expert, readily accessible technical support to help users maximise the benefits they gain from ifm products.
