PUMPED UP PERFORMANCE
19 September 2012
British Airways (BA) has incorporated Schneider Electric’s Altivar 61 variable speed drives (VSDs) into the condenser water pump system at its Flight Training facilities at Heathrow Airport
Thesolution has resulted in a significant saving for the business while helping to overcome operational difficulties on the system.
Schneider Electric originally loaned British Airways and EMCOR an Altivar 61 VSD to test its performance and prove the return on investment it would deliver. BA was so impressed that it then took the decision to install drives on the two star delta pumps, and with Schneider Electric’s assistance it now operates at a much more efficient 12kW each.
To accurately monitor the energy performance of the system, Schneider Electric also supplied its PM810 power meters to measure the energy used on each VSD.
