RENOWNED FOR its technically optimised motion plastics, igus also offers comprehensive industrial coating capabilities, reinforcing its position as a single-source partner for high-performance, low-maintenance tribological products across demanding industrial environments.

The company has has expanded its engineered coating portfolio to address corrosion protection, wear resistance, friction reduction, and chemical durability in one integrated offering. By combining advanced polymers with application engineering expertise, igus delivers coating systems tailored to specific load profiles, environmental exposures, and lifecycle requirements.
igus coating technologies are designed to:
- Reduce friction and eliminate external lubrication
- Enhance abrasion and wear resistance
- Provide corrosion protection in aggressive environments
- Improve chemical and UV resistance
- Extend service intervals and asset lifespan.
Using their proprietary tribopolymer formulations, igus coatings enable components to operate reliably in harsh conditions including high humidity, particulate exposure, washdown environments, and temperature extremes. Unlike traditional coating suppliers, igus combines inhouse material development with extensive testing in real-world conditions.
Customers can specify, test, and implement coating solutions without engaging multiple vendors, reducing lead times and mitigating performance risk. By engineering coatings that enhance durability and reduce lifecycle cost, igus helps customers meet operational, environmental, and financial performance targets simultaneously.
FAQs
1. How long do industrial coatings last?
- igus coatings are extremely durable and as they wear the coefficient of friction gets lower. The life of the coating is then determined by the frequency of use inside the application.
- All coatings will wear through at some point but igus coatings are designed for load and movement with the bonus of built in solid lubricants, so no more grease or lubricants are required. If additional lubricants were added this would accelerate the wear as this causes a grinding paste to build up when dirt and dust enter the application.
- If an application area is extremely harsh, a second layer of powder coat can be applied.
2. How are these coatings applied?
- Powder coatings can be easily applied to conductive materials using electrostatic charging. For this purpose, the component is charged and the powder is applied using a spray gun in the tribo charging process. The powder adheres to the component and builds up a uniform layer and is then cured by heat.
- Depending on the component and material, the dwell time is 5 to 30 minutes. Unlike wet paint, you can use the component directly after the coating process, as there is no curing time.
3. PFAS chemicals
- igus coatings are environmentally friendly as they require no extra grease to be applied which is a major environmental benefit
- Some igus coatings are also PFAS tested, this is an important product range as the PFAS chemical known as forever chemicals are being phased out globally and there is a solution in place for this at igus with the IC-05PF range of powder.
