Regulations worldwide drive the need for OCR
In May 2012, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued 24 mandatory food recalls for reasons ranging from salmonella to undeclared almonds. The International Standards Organization (ISO) includes tracking and labeling requirements for most agricultural products, while Japanese law includes documenting everything from agricultural chemicals to slaughterhouse operations (Abattoir Law).
