High precision & dynamics
24 February 2014
POSITAL’s new magnetic IXARC encoders are reported to be the the first to reach the performance characteristics of optical absolute encoder systems.

The new units are based on Hall sensors that generate analogue output signals. These are analysed by a separate, powerful 32 bit microprocessor with comprehensive real-time data processing features. A specially developed signal processing software fulfills the requirements both for high precision and high dynamics: the encoders provide an accuracy of 12 bit (<0.1°) at a 16 bit resolution, and latency times of few microseconds.
Revolutions are registered by means of an energy harvesting system based on the Wiegand effect which obtains the required power from the rotating magnetic field. This means users in the automation industry have new possibilities, especially where powerful, durable solutions with a small footprint are required.
