Mini actuator
22 February 2018
New to the UK market from Harmonic Drive, the FHA-C Mini Servo Actuator with multi-turn absolute encoder (MZE) is designed to provide reliable performance for machinery, automation systems and industrial robots in environments prone to electromagnetic interference (EMI).
The FHA-C Mini has a specially developed precision output bearing with high tilting capacity, which allows it to directly handle heavy payloads without additional support. The actuator also has a high positioning accuracy to ensure short machine cycle-times to increase efficiency and productivity.
The new range is said to be unique in its inclusion of the MZE, which is mounted directly on the motor shaft at the load for repeated high precision over the course of more than 600 revolutions. Positioning data is transmitted using an EnDat 2.2 digital interface module, which consists of a power supply, transceiver and processor all designed to comply with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations.
“While the technological revolution of recent decades has allowed us to improve many processes, it has resulted in some problems with electrical reliability,” explained Graham Mackrell, managing director of Harmonic Drive UK. “Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is becoming more common in industrial plants, so design engineers and machine builders must ensure that the components they use are designed to EMC requirements to guarantee reliability.
“Harmonic Drive AG gears and actuators consistently provide precision, reliability and repeatability, but the machinery will only ever be as accurate as its power supply allows it to be. EMI can lead to unexpected movements, which can result in poor quality products. The FHA-C Mini with MZE is designed to meet EMC standards to ensure that the motion and positioning accuracy it provides does not come at a cost.”
FHA-C Mini servo actuators are available in three sizes with gear ratios of 30, 50, and 100 capable of transmitting maximum torques between 1.8 and 28 Nm.
